Easy engraving letters with Fusion360

I had a hard time finding a simple way to engrave simple text with Fusion360. Somehow, if you choose Arial lettertype, the engraving or trace function did not quite do as I had hoped for. I would like to write a text, trace the text with a engraving drill (1mm) and done! There are some solutions that offer a solution where an external letterfont must be installed. That sounded weird to me; such a simple thing must be possible from within Fusion360.

Here’s how I did it.

In Sketch-mode write a text and choose lettertype Simplex.shx.

Then use the 2d Trace option to trace the letters. On the Passes-page you can set the depth of the engraving with Axial offset. Be sure to adapt the depth according to the tool that you are using. If you’d like to make a deeper engraving you can even do multiple passes. Just enable Axial offset passes.

Untill now I’m pleased with the results.
